28/02/11 - Under 13 Footballers Suffer Defeat

The Under 13 football team suffered heartache in their quarter-final tie of the NI Small Schools' Cup at Omagh High School on Friday 25 February.

The Newtownhamilton boys controlled the game for long periods and looked set for a place in the last 4 of the competition when Gary Knight scored with 10 minutes remaining. Unfortuately Omagh pushed forward in the closing stages of the games and scored 2 goals in the last 3 minutes as Newtownhamilton paid the price for not taking their opportunities in front of goal.

A great effort from our boys but it was not to be on the day. Daryl Johnston, Matthew Harrison and goal scorer Gary Knight impressed for Newtownhamilton.

Best wishes go to Omagh High for their semi-final clash.
21/02/11 - Year 8 Road Safety

Mrs Lorna Dougan (DOE Road Safety Officer) delivered a presentation to the Year 8 pupils on Monday 21 February about the road safety issues that impact on them. Mrs Dougan spoke about safe crossing, sealbelt wearing, safe cycling, appropriate clothing and distractions casued by electronic devices such as mobile phones and ipods.

Sadly 55 people lost their lives on the roads of Northern Ireland in 2010 and it hoped that the work of the DOE in partnership with schools can help to reduce the number of deaths in 2011. Special thanks must go to Mrs Dougan for her time in helping to address this important matter.
11/02/11 - Year 9 Trade Fair

On Wednesday 9th February the Year 9 pupils, in partnership with Young Enterprise, held a trade fair in the school. This followed on from the very successful trip to Rushmere Shopping Centre where the pupils had created their own companies and had the opportunity to sell a range of products to the public that were specifically chosen by them.

The pupils thoroughly enjoyed this trade fair which gave them an important insight into how to operate a business, and develop the many skills and qualities required to be successful entrepreneurs. Special thanks go to Mr Sloan and Miss Johnston for assisting the pupils in designing their stalls and products.

Newtownhamilton High School is extremely grateful to these organisations for their generosity and would encourage all our website visitors to support them. 07/02/11 - Success at Rushmere Shopping Centre

Year 9 had a very successful day at Rushmere Shopping Centre on Friday 4 February, when they competed against other schools in the Young Enterprise Quick Start Programme. This involved planning and setting up a business enterprise.

Congratulations to ‘Superlicous’ (Elizabeth Blackwood, Natasha Kennedy, Rebecca Stoops, Rebekah Smyth, Mathew Giffin, Laura Johnston, Neil Morton and Stephen Brown) who scooped up first prize for their enterprising skills. They were selling bracelets, beads, pins and pens, with all proceeds going to the Leukaemia Ward, 10 North, Belfast City Hospital.

All Year 9 students worked extremely hard throughout the duration of this programme, including participation in a Dragon’s Den activity on Monday. They had to present their ideas to a panel, which consisted of two bank managers and a Young Enterprise representative. All groups coped well under pressure and this prepared them for introduction to the real world of business. All pupils had a great day and have gained valuable business experience.

A huge thank you to Young Enterprise, the Management of Rushmere Shopping Centre, the public and our teaching staff, Mrs McKeever, Mrs Coyle, Mrs Shields and Mr Black who have made this event a success.

01/02/11 - An Assembly With A Difference

Music Teacher Mr G Proctor had some help during assembly on Tuesday morning when pupil Timmy Walker played the drums to the tune of 'These are the days of Elijah'. Timmy's class peers from 10X also contributed by speaking on the topic of love in the build up to Valentine's Day.

Well done to all involved with special mention reserved for Timmy who clearly enjoyed the experience.
