27/09/12 - Presentation of Bibles to Year 8 
Our Year 8 pupils were presented with Bibles recently by Norman Alexander, Richard Alexander and Timothy Wilson, who all come from the Markethill area. 
The 3 gentlemen also spoke to the pupils about their faith and how they distribute Bibles to many organisations in the local and wider community. 
27/09/12 - Newry & Mourne Quiz Winners 
Congratulations to the 10 pupils from 9X on winning the Newry & Mourne Home Accident Prevention Quiz at Bellini's on Wednesday 26 September. 
Following numerous questions, the team finished level on points in first position with Banbridge Academy in the 9 team competition. However Aaron Armstrong held his nerve during the tie-break question to ensure victory and a £30 Buttercrane voucher for all team members. 
Well done to the winning team of Aaron Armstrong, Laura Barbour, Kyle Bradshaw, Caitlin Coulter, James Kennedy, Emma McCombe, Anita McNiece, Andrew Watt, Madison West and Jaymey Whyte. 
24/09/12 - European Breakfast Morning 
Staff and pupils indulged in a selection of crepes during break time on Friday 21 September as the French and Home Economics Departments worked together to provide a European style breakfast. 
Those in attendance also used the opportunity to brush up on their language skills and phrases such as ‘Bon appétit’, ‘s’il vous plaît’ and ‘merci’ were regularly used! 
21/09/12 - Guitar Success 
Congratulations to Year 8 pupils Aaron Mitchell and Joel Ewart on passing their Initial Guitar Examination which is delivered in partnership with the Trinity College of Music (London). 
Many thanks to SELB Guitar Tutor Mr Mervyn Braiden for helping to establish this exciting new venture for Newtownhamilton High School. 
20/09/12 - Notice of School Association AGM 
All parents, staff and friends of the school are encouraged to attend the School Association AGM on Wednesday 3 October 2012 at 7.30pm in Room 5. 
During the 2011/12 school year, the School Association held a number of community based events that raised £1993.27 for school funds.

20/09/12 - STEM Module visits Newtownhamilton 
Year 9 and Year 10 pupils got to experience Science in a new environment on Tuesday when the STEM Module rolled into town. STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) is a major Government initiative throughout the UK.  
The ‘Module’ is a fully equipped Science lab where pupils were able to use modern light microscopes with high resolution cameras to investigate the fascinating world of cell life and microscopic structures. They also had the opportunity to see a 3-D Microscope and a Scanning Electron Microscope, which is used to study the fine details of insects and parasites, in operation. The day was thoroughly enjoyed by all! 
18/09/12 - Newtownhamilton High Benefit From Norbrook Gift 
We are delighted to announce that Norbrook Laboratories Ltd has made a very generous donation to the Science Department at Newtownhamilton High School, through which the school has purchased a complete set of books for the GCSE Double Award Science syllabus.

13/09/12 - Year 8 Induction Trip 
A Year 8 trip to the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh on Thursday 13 September provided an opportunity for the new intake to get to know each other better outside the more formalised classroom environment. There was also a chance to participate in a wide range of workshops including Ulster and American Home Cooking. 
The trip provided many curriculum links and went down well with the pupils and the accompanied staff of Mrs C Alexander, Miss K Johnston and Mrs C Simms. 
12/09/12 - Year 12 Geography Field Trip 
The Year 12 Geography pupils travelled to the Yellow Water River in Rostrevor on Tuesday 11 September in order to collect data for their GCSE Controlled Assessment. 
The pupils enjoyed fine weather and had a good time under the watchful eye of Killowen OEC Instructor Mr Vincent McAlinden. Thanks also goes to Mrs E Flanagan and Mr R Gibson for providing supervision.

07/09/12 - Art & History Departments Celebrate Achievement 
Last term the Art, ICT and History Departments worked together closely and developed cross-curricular links in the teaching of Medieval castles. Year 8 pupils researched castles in their ICT lessons and produced fantastic PowerPoint presentations which were assessed by Mrs Reid and Mrs Ferris. In addition 8A pupils worked enthusiastically with Miss Johnston in their Art lessons - they designed and created two wonderful examples of Medival castles. Their models have been given pride of place in the History Department. Both Mrs Reid and Miss Johnston are delighted with their finished castles! 
07/09/12 - Return of Trophies 
2011 Prize Winners are asked to return all cups and shields to the school as soon as possible so that they can be engraved and cleaned for Prize Night on Thursday 15 November 2012 (7.30pm).

03/09/12 - Year 8 Induction Day 
The staff and pupils of Newtownhamilton High School were delighted with the arrival of 37 Year 8 pupils today (the school has an intake quota of 35 pupils as set by the Department of Education). Following a welcome by Principal Mr Garnet Mullan and an introduction to all staff, the pupils quickly got to work in groups as part of an induction programme delivered by Young Enterprise. The school prefects were on hand to help settle any nerves and deal with any queries. 
A tour of their new surroundings occurred before lunch with pupils then going through a number of important issues with their new Form Teacher during the afternoon. 
A big thank you must go to Personal Development Co-ordinator Mrs A Laverty and the prefects for the support provided. 
23/08/12 - GCSE Results 
Thursday 23 August 2012 saw the arrival of the GCSE results for the class of 2012 and once again pupils from Newtownhamilton High School excelled. Top student was Ashleigh Henry (pictured top centre) with 5 A* and 5 A grades. Well done to all pupils.
