28/06/19 - Amazing Accelerated Readers!
Many pupils from KS3 have embraced the new reading program that the school introduced this year. Accelerated Reader sets individual reading targets for pupils and all books are awarded a different number of points based on the complexity of the material read. We have been delighted by the improvement in the reading ages of many pupils across KS3. To celebrate this success all pupils who reached their targets received a monetary reward and all pupils who attained 20 points and above received sweet treats. Our top points winner was Ryan Johnston. Well done everyone!
27/06/19 - Year 8 Visit Carrickfergus Castle
Year 8 ended a great first year studying the Normans in History by stepping outside their classroom into the sunshine where they enthusiastically explored the magnificent Carrickfergus Castle which was built by John de Courcy in 1177. A final stop at MacDonalds ended a wonderful day out. Thanks go to Mrs Reid, Miss Baird, Mrs Wilson and Mrs Johnson who accompanied the pupils.
25/06/19 - Sports Day & House Matches 2019
Splatters of rain on both days did not dampen spirits as the pupils of Newtownhamilton High put friendships aside and competed to win points for their respective Houses. Fane, Dorsey and Whitewater competitors took part in various events to vie for the prestigious House trophy awarded for the best overall House on Sports Day. The spoils this year belonged to Dorsey as they defeated last year's champions Whitewater by just 6 points! Special mention to certain athletes who managed to break school records on the day. They included:
Ryan Johnson (Year 8) broke the 800m record previously held by Daryl Johnston.
Isaac Preston (Year 10) equalled the High Jump record currently held by Henry Jones.
Dylan McGurgan (Year 11) broke the 200m record previously held by Mark Nicholson.
Nicole Bailie (Year 11) broke the Long Jump record previously held by Kerry-Ann Walker.
Alice Whyte (Year 11) broke the Shot Putt record previously held by Amber Lucas.
In the house matches, Fane had a difficult day at the office losing both Hockey and Football matches to Dorsey and Whitewater. Although they did give Dorsey a scare in the football as it took a last minute goal from Dylan McGurgan for Dorsey to win 5-4. The Hockey and Football matches between Dorsey and Whitewater were tightly contested and played in a good competitive spirit, and it was Dorsey who came out on top on both occasions.
24/06/19 - Top Merit Winners 2019
Friday was a time for rewarding pupils in school and what better way to celebrate than with a Domino’s Pizza?....or 12!
The top Merit winners for each class enjoyed an afternoon of melted cheese, pepperoni and BBQ Chicken in recognition of their hard work and dedication throughout the year. A very enjoyable afternoon was had by all, even if there was some over indulgence! Congratulations to all the pupils involved. Thanks also to Domino’s Pizza, Armagh, for all their help in this event.
