28/01/20 - Year 11 History Commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day – 27 January 2020
On the evening of Monday 27 January our Year 11 History pupils had the huge honour and privilege of being part of N Ireland’s annual Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration Service in Belfast City Hall. Our pupils travelled together with pupils and staff fromthe Royal School Armagh, Banbridge High School and New-Bridge Integrated College. Two of our pupils, Jodie Truesdale and Lucy Gray took part in the service that marked the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the former Nazi concentrationand extermination camp, Auschwitz-Birkenau and the 25th anniversary of the genocide in Bosnia. Holocaust survivor, Tomi Reichental was the powerful and very moving keynote speaker at this poignant event, who along with his family was held in the Bergen-Belsenconcentration camp from 1944 – 1945, until it was finally liberated by British troops. Our thanks go to Mr Megaw and Mrs Reid who accompanied our pupils to this very special and memorable event.
A recording of the HMD 2020 Commemoration Service will be able to view online through the Holocaust Memorial Day website:

Miss Johnston was very pleased to pass on a certificate to past pupil Chloe White today. Chloe achieved 100% in her GCSE Art and Design in 2019 and CCEA like to celebrate the few students who achieve this result.
Really well done to Chloe who has gone on to study BTEC Art and Design at Newry SRC. Miss Johnston would like to wish her all the best and has no doubt she will do very well as she is such a creative and hardworking student.
22/01/20 - Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration 2020
In October 2019 our Year 10 & Year 11 History pupils had the privilege of hearing Holocaust survivor Tomi Reichental's very moving and personal story. Similar events were held across Northern Ireland as part of the lead up to Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2020. The Executive Office in conjunction with the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust filmed at 12 different venues across Northern Ireland and produced the following video which shows young people from schools and colleges reactions to the survivors’ powerful stories and their comments on the importance of lessons being learned from the past. One of our Year 11 History pupil’s thoughts and reflections have been included in this short film. Whilst the film will be premiered at the HMD event in Belfast City Hall on Monday 27th January 2020, which our Year 11 History pupils are also taking part in, it can be shared and viewed at the link shown below.
