31/01/17 – Year 10 CAFRE Visit
Dean McCoy from CAFRE Colleges visited Newtownhamilton High last week to speak to some Year 10 pupils about a possible career in Agriculture. As you can see in the photo, the boys all enjoyed the visit and they took the opportunity to ask a lot of relevant questions. Maybe in 3 years some of these boys will be studying at Greenmount but a lot of hard work is needed in the meantime to achieve the GCSE grades required for enrolment.
27/01/17 - True Colours Exhibition Visit
A great day was had at the annual ‘True Colours’ exhibition in Belfast for the Year 11 and 12 pupils studying GCSE Art and Design. The trip began with research in the Ulster Museum and then a viewing of the top GCSE and A Level Art from different schools around Northern Ireland. It is hoped pupils are inspired by the outstanding work and now have plenty of ideas for styles and techniques to add to their own.

17/01/17 - SESP Kingspan Stadium Visit
As part of Newtownhamilton High School's involvement with SESP, some of our Year 8 pupils as well as pupils from St Paul's Bessbrook and Newry High School travelled to the home of Ulster Rugby: Kingspan Stadium.
During the visit, the boys were given a very detailed and informative tour of the stadium, learning about the history, construction and ongoing development. The boys were given exclusive tours of the home/away changing rooms, press conference areas and were allowed to run through the tunnels that lead onto the pitch!
The boys were shown the extensive facilities that Ulster Rugby has access to and were fortunate enough to watch some of Ulster Rugby's up and coming stars train in the state of the art gym - as well as spying on a few of the current starting 15 during an outdoor fitness session.
A trip to the Nevin Spence Centre concluded the day and the boys finished off their trip to Kingspan Stadium with an iPad workshop and the opportunity to look around the Rugby Museum as well as the chance to play a few of the interactive rugby simulators!
Overall a very enjoyable day which was both very informative for all the boys and good opportunity to further develop positive relationships through SESP.

05/01/17 - Ceramics Club 2016
Another great group of pupils from year 10 made exciting ceramic pieces on Tuesday afternoons with Miss Johnston. Their handbuilt pieces were glazed and finished to a very high standard. Pupils completed 3D pots and tealight holders, wall hangings and framed pieces. A display of their work was on show at the Carol service and many parents and friends will have received beautiful presents for Christmas. Roll on the next group for Ceramics Club in 2017.
05/01/17 - Artist of the Month
Well done to Dinah Park and Chloe Courtney in Year 9 on achieving the most recent ‘Artist of the Month’ title. These girls produced beautiful painted sunsets of their favourite animals. Keep up the great work and effort girls.
